Jeannine Gliddon Owens
Art Director / Designer / Animator / Researcher / Student
I have diverse and extensive experience in multiple and varied environments. In addition to directing Gliddon Owens Design, I am a multimedia designer and animator for the City of Virginia Beach Communications department and am pursuing my PhD in International Studies. Previously, I held design and art director positions at various organizations and agencies and taught design and illustration at Colorado State University and the University of Wyoming.
I hold a BFA in Graphic Design from Colorado State University, an MA in Humanities/Visual Studies from Old Dominion University, and am currently working on a PhD in International Studies from Old Dominion University. My research focuses on the effects of art and visual communication on institutions and culture. To complete my master's degree, I produced a multimedia exhibit on social change Internet memes which you can find here: Know What I Meme? New Perspectives Beyond the Digital. My dissertation topic focuses on art and cultural object repatriation and the role that social and normative structures play in the recent increase in cases.
My fine art has been included in various exhibits, collections, and commissions, and I also enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking, playing tennis, reading murder mysteries, and floating in the ocean every summer weekend.
